Clonkeen College Press was set up in the 2011-12 academic year. Each year the Press publishes THE ANTHOLOGY, a collection of students’ writing.
To date, the bulk of the contributions to THE ANTHOLOGY have come from Transition Year students taking the Creative Writing module. However, there have also always been important contributions from students across the school, from 1st Yr to 6th Yr, and we greatly encourage this.

Since its inception, Clonkeen College Press has increasingly become the work of the students themselves. Our very first group in 2011-12, pioneered the project, wrote and edited their short stories and assembled them into a single volume. This first group also promoted the book, managed the sales and the distribution. Their volume, THE ANTHOLOGY 2012, was published in April 2012 and included seventeen stories from students in Transition Year, one short story from a 6th Yr student and a poem from another 6th Yr student.

In the years since, each successive Creative Writing class has taken on more and more responsibility so that now the students have become the engine behind the entire Clonkeen College Press project. They are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of the running of Clonkeen College Press, including:

  • Writing
  • Editing
  • Inviting and managing submissions from other students
  • Promotion of THE ANTHOLOGY
  • Cover design
  • Layout and formatting
  • Liaising with the printer
  • Pricing
  • Sales
  • Keeping accounts
  • Distribution
